KNOX {a birth story}

Another beautiful baby boy has entered this world.  I always feel so humbled when families allow me into the delivery room to photograph such an intimate and special moment in their lives.  Being with Jeremy & Catherine was no exception.  You may recognize Catherine from being present in the last birth I photographed (Evie).  Catherine and Heather are best friends, each attending the other one’s birth.  What a sweet friendship they have.  Catherine intended to go natural for this birth, but as soon as she learned she would need pitocin for her labor, she decided an epidural was the way to go.  Good for her, too – that pitocin is a nasty beast.  Trust me, I know- had 4 babies that way.  By the time I arrived, the epidural was alive and well, so Catherine was all smiles.  We sat and watched contraction after contraction happen as we chatted and laughed.  Eventually, though, Catherine began to get exhausted (she may not be feeling the pain, but her body was still doing a TON of work), then the pain-free labor faded as she neared the end.  As she was talking to the anesthesiologist (a laboring woman’s best friend) about possibly increasing her pain meds, the nurse checked her and she was ready to push! Hallelujah! No tough decision of do I get more drugs or not??  Within minutes of the doctor getting there, Knox was here! Weighing in at 9lbs 4oz and 21.5 inches long, he was just perfect.  He has the kind of cheeks that makes a grandma want to pinch them.

I was so incredibly touched by the response of Jeremy and Catherine at meeting their fourth baby.  This little boy has been prayed for and wanted for so long.  He truly is a gift from the Lord and we are all praising God for this life!

You can see their slideshow HERE.

Jeremy grabbed that little hand and wouldn’t let go.  I think I melted.
