Halloween in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

After Emma was born, I had it in my head that every Halloween, I would coordinate the kids’ costumes.  We had Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, The Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood, Batman and Robin, then Jake, Izzy, and Cubby.  Then last year, the kids started to wise up and realize they could pick their own costumes, so I thought my days of coordinating were over.  Seth really wanted to be Spiderman, so that’s what I let him be.  But thankfully, SBTS’s fall festival was Wizard of Oz themed and encouraged kids to wear costumes.  Bingo.  Another coordinated Halloween (ok, they didn’t trick or treat in these costumes, but it was still fun to do!).  Honestly, I just wanted to dress Ellie up at Glinda, so any excuse to do that was fine with me.

So this year, Seth has been insisting he be a Jedi, and since we already had the costume, I thought “why not?” Emma would just pick one of her many princess costumes, and maybe I’ll recycle the Wolf and Little Red for Luke and Ellie, and at least have a couple coordinated.  But then Luke had opinions.  Boy, does Luke have opinions.  Since Seth was a Jedi, he really wanted to be Darth Vader (or Dark Mater, as Luke calls him).  So I found (thanks to the help of my sister) a $5 Darth Vader costume (yes, goodbye making ALL the costumes), and voila, he’s done.  And if Emma wants to be a princess, well, guess which one she will be?  3 out of 4 costumes done so far…I began to think I could actually pull off a coordinated Halloween!  So all that was left was Ellie, and with a little felt and a glue gun, we had our very own little R2D2.  I’ve never seen the kids more excited to dress up for Halloween. I’m sure they are going to be a drop in the bucket of Star Wars costumes this year, but I really don’t care.  Star Wars is a favorite in our house right now and by golly, we’re going to do it.  So of course, in traditional style, we had to spend some time taking pictures in our costumes, so we headed to a galaxy far, far away to do them…. 🙂

Side note: it’s really hard to call Seth “Luke” and even harder to not make Luke say “Luke, I am your father…” 🙂 (We may have made him say it over and over already.)
